SMU Falls To North Texas
DALLAS (SMU)— The SMU women's basketball team fell to North Texas 76-61 on Wednesday night in Moody Coliseum.
Tiara Young led SMU (8-9; 2-4 American Athletic Conference) with 16 points. The graduate guard grabbed six rebounds and tied her season-high with three steals. Reagan Bradley scored 13 points, passed out three assists, and recorded two steals. Tamia Jones tallied nine points and added five assists, a rebound, and a steal. Amirah Abdur-Rahim finished with eight points and seven boards. The senior forward passed out two assists and blocked three shots.
Jiya Perry scored five points and added an assist, block, and steal, while Maya Chandler finished with five points. Donavia Hall chipped in four points, one rebound, and an assist.
A jumper from Young halted a 10-0 run from North Texas to start the game. Jones knocked down a jumper and triple in two straight possessions, followed by both teams trading 6-0 runs to finish the quarter with the Mustangs trailing 21-15.
Jones assisted Abdur-Rahim, who finished two buckets to cut the deficit to four with two minutes left in the second. The Mean Green closed the quarter with back-to-back buckets to lead 37-29 at the half.
UNT led 53-38 heading into the final quarter after outscoring SMU 17-9 in the third. A bucket from Bradley and a three-pointer from Jones cut the Mustang's deficit to 12 to start the fourth. North Texas used eight unanswered in the last half of the quarter to create further separation and seal the victory.
