Abdur-Rahim Scores 21 In Loss At North Texas

DENTON, Texas (SMU)- Amirah Abdur-Rahim totaled 21 points, but the SMU women's basketball team fell to North Texas 78-65 on Saturday afternoon in the Super Pit.

Abur-Rahim's 21 led SMU (11-12; 5-7 American Athletic Conference). The senior forward added a career-high five steals, nine rebounds, and two blocks. Chantae Embry reached double-digits for the sixth game in a row with 12 points. She added three rebounds and as many assists. Tiara Young logged 15 points and grabbed three boards. Reagan Bradley turned in five points and four rebounds, while Maya Chandler scored six. Jiya Perry tallied four points and grabbed two boards.

Young started the fourth with two straight buckets. North Texas hit four shots in a row to extend its lead to 71-57 halfway through the fourth. SMU kept battling, but the Mean Green used their separation to seal a 78-65 victory.

Embry logged two buckets, and Chandler hit one from beyond the arc to trim the Mustangs deficit after halftime. UNT answered with nine straight to extend its lead to 12. North Texas made seven of its final eight shots from the field to take a 63-45 lead into the fourth quarter.

A three-pointer from Young and a finish from Aaliyah Henderson gave SMU the first five points of the second and its first lead of the contest. Both teams traded runs down the stretch, with SMU using seven unanswered to match an 8-0 run from the Mean Green. UNT finished the half with another 8-0 run to lead 37-28 at the break. The Mustangs trailed 17-14 after a back-and-forth first quarter.
