IMO unless you are locked into one of the 'sweet 16' coaches we don't seem to be making much progress.

Looks like its Enfield

What makes you say that? His name has been floated out there, but is there any reason to believe Miller & co., are serious about him?

Rodney Peete now a sports talk host in LA says USC sources tell him that Enfield has accepted the job. The USC fan boards are all acting as if Enfield is already a goner and are criticizing his performance at USC. None of this is set in stone but I'm not hearing this kind of talk surrounding anyone else that we were looking at.

Remember when JJ's agent leaked that he was going to Arizona State. The fans got ticked off and the offer (if there was one) was gone. Don't put it past an agent to fly a false flag to stimulate interest in his client. I'm sure he's been contacted through channels like a dozen other candidates. My view is that whomever it is, has a team still playing right now or an announcement would have been made or scheduled.

Really hard for me to believe we have a deal worked out with one of the sweet 16 coaches, but I like the optimism.

Fits the SMU mindset = USC! USC!! USC!!!, our “dream school”…hot wife, a super model!!…PRO!!! Hoops experience…underdog, small school success at March Madness with FGCU - who didn’t love that story…took USC to 5 NCAA tourneys in 11 seasons at SC, with one Elite Eight, but never really coached much past the round of 64…hit a ceiling at SC, so motivated for a fresh start, interested in SMU…we could do worse, but not the Smart, Calipari, Wright, ______ splash hire many hoped for or expected. I will support the guy, but a tad underwhelmed, if in fact he is the guy. #WillBronyCome?

Sports Illustrated today:

https://www.si.com/college/usc/basketba ... job-eg2001

USC basketball head coach Andy Enfield is reportedly leaving USC and taking the job as the SMU basketball head coach.

ESPN's Pete Thamel reported earlier on Tuesday that Enfield had emerged as a "person of interest" for the SMU job. Later in the day, Rodney Peete of AM 570 LA Sports said that Enfield is leaving for SMU. Neither school or program has confirmed the news yet.

SMU has a head coach vacancy, after they fired Rob Lanier following two seasons. SMU, who is moving to the ACC, is looking to bring in the right coach as they enter a new chapter.

Though Enfield was criticized after USC struggled this season, he had an overall successful tenure as head coach for the Trojans. Enfield led the Trojans to winning records in seven of eleven seasons coaching the team. He also succeeded in bringing in top recruits like Isaiah Collier to the program. In 2023-2024, Enfield and the Trojans officially finished with a 15-18 record.

Assuming Enfield does officially take the job with SMU, USC basketball would be tasked with finding a new coach for the first time in over a decade. Enfield has led the program since he was hired in 2013. He compiled a 219–146 overall record with the Trojans, and a 105–100 Pac-12 conference record.

While the Trojans didn't meet expectations in 2023-2024, USC should be an attractive job for other coaches. For one, the team struggled with injuries that held them back for much of the season. Second, the Trojans have recruited several other key prospects.

USC was 1-5 without Collier in late January. Lost his first two games back against future ACC mates and then the Trojans went on a hot streak starting with the home win over Utah.

Would be a good hire if he brings Collier with him and can retain the guys who contributed significant minutes this past season. Another capable scorer would be huge for this team

Collier is projected to go 10th overall in the latest ESPN mock draft. Bronny won’t come to Dallas.

How many other available coaches have been to the Elite 8 and Sweet Sixteen with different teams?

A change of scenery can be rejuvenating, so if Enfield is the guy then who knows. It will be a major upgrade from everything post Larry, so I will be optimistic and happy.

Sweet 16 and Elite 8 coaches are hard to find. I’m hoping this is true.

IDK - a chance to stay with your same coach and compete in the ACC?

No new reporting on Enfield thus far today. So far, the only named source is Rodney Peete, who is currently just a LA-area radio personality and played for USC about 40 years ago. So we may be jumping the gun here on Enfield.
