Open scholarship spots

Figured we should have a running tracker of roster spots Andy Enfield and his staff will have available.

Samuell Williamson graduated
Xavier Foster
Mo Njie
Jackson Young (former walk-on earned a scholarship)

Was Emory Lanier scholarship? Or was he able to enroll for free because his dad was an SMU employee?

Pretty sure Lanier's relationship to Coach was how Young was able to get the 'ship so should be room for 2 transfers assuming the incoming FR recruits don't want out after the coaching change

Six USC players are in the portal. Five are rated 4 star transfers, one a 3 star transfer. Would surprise me not one bit if we have more than 2 transfers next season.

With 2 spots open (at least for now) this roster can definitely use another big who can contribute right away and a wing who can be another scoring threat to replace Williamson. Not sure we can rely on the incoming FR to fill those needs right away

Sellers and Iwuchukwu are the guys who would appear to fit our needs best and Iwuchukwu is from Texas so his "coming home" would make sense. With Phelps possibly moving on, another spot could open up and we really need guys who can shoot a higher percentage than Williamson and Phelps did for us. Those two were significant contributors all over the floor but were not the guys you wanted taking perimeter shots at crunch time.

Was Emory Lanier scholarship? Or was he able to enroll for free because his dad was an SMU employee?

So now add

Zurich Phelps
Ricardo Wright

Looks like SG Kario Oquendo will be transferring from Oregon to fill one of the backcourt vacancies

Oquendo didn't get the minutes he saw at Georgia in his one year at Oregon and will be a one year guy for SMU. Appears he played pretty well in his 2 games against USC and apparently made an impression on Coach Enfield

At least he didn't burn any eligibility here. Hopefully Harris, Edwards & Jalen all return. Opportunity is there to upgrade the backcourt and adding a few 3 point gunners would really be nice!

Good choices, all ... especially if we can land Iwuchukwu
