No. 1 SMU Falls To No. 3 TCU In Season Opener

BURLESON, Texas (SMU) – The top-ranked Mustangs fell to No. 3 TCU 12-6 on Friday at Bear Creek Farms.

The Mustangs' five meet win-steak – dating back to last season's national championship run – came to an end against the No. 3 Horned Frogs.

Elli Yeager (Fences) earned Most Outstanding Player (MOP).

The meet began with coinciding Fences and Reining events. The two teams split wins in the events, with SMU taking home Fences (3-1).

Augusta Iwasaki got the Mustangs on the board first, posting an 85 to defeat TCU's Lily Goldstein. Elli Yeager also came away victorious with an 87 to score SMU's second Fences point.

Hensley Humphries scored a 79 to secure the SMU Fences victory.

The second half of the meet saw Horsemanship and Flat simultaneously.

Nya Kearns won her point 75.5-72 over TCU's Shea Graham in the Mustangs' Horsemanship point.

The Mustangs went on to earn two points on the Flat. Taylor Madden notched Ashleigh Scully by 1 (76-75). Elli Yeager posted an 81 off a re-ride versus TCU's Sydnie Young to earn SMU's second point on the Flat.

SMU is back in action for its home opener versus No. 5 Oklahoma State on Saturday, Oct. 14.
