Taylor Johnson Named AAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
IRVING, Texas (SMU/The American) — Taylor Johnson was named the American Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.
The conference honor follows a combined 5-0 performance in singles and doubles play in the Mustangs' three matches this week.
Against UTA on Tuesday, Johnson and Mavor — ranked No. 57 by the ITA — paired for a 6-4 set win over UTA's Tara Gorinsek and M. Manyoma-Velasquez.
Johnson then notched the first win for SMU in singles action with her win over Manyoma-Velasquez — 6-1, 6-2.
Friday saw action against A foe Wichita State for SMU. Johnson and Mavor pair again to clinch the doubles point for the Mustangs, beating Xin Tong [deleted] and Natsumi Kurahashi — 7-5.
The Mustangs' final match of the week was against LSU on Sunday. Johnson and Mavor once again won their doubles match, this time against LSU's Kenna Erickson and Anita Sahdiieva, 6-4.
In singles play, Johnson swept her LSU opponent in two sets (6-2, 6-0).

Johnson will be back in action this weekend, as SMU hosts Denver in the Match of the Month on Saturday at 1 p.m. SMU will then transition to take on FIU on Sunday, with first serve set for 11 a.m.
