IRVING, Texas (SMU) - SMU men's soccer player Arthur Ivo was named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week. The junior midfielder scored two goals, both on free kicks, and assisted on two other tallies as No. 6 SMU defeated conference rivals No. 17 Tulsa and Memphis. SMU is now 13-1-0 on the season and holds a 5-1-0 mark in C-USA action.
On Oct. 20 against No. 17 Tulsa, Ivo netted a goal in the 62nd minute on a free kick, firing a shot from 40 yards out to tie the game at two. Ivo then assisted on the game-winner as he fed a ball to Robbie Derschang, who dribbled 40 yards down field before sending the ball into the far upper 90 for the win. Saturday in a 3-0 win over Memphis, Ivo netted a goal in the 49th minute on a set piece from 20 yards out. Ivo fired the ball just inside the right post for his seventh goal of the year. He also assisted on a goal when he set up for another free kick just outside the box and hit the crossbar, only to have teammate Leone Cruz follow with the put-back goal.
Ivo has now converted free kicks in back-to-back games for the Mustangs and has collected at least one point in four consecutive matches. He ranks second on the team in goals (7), assists (4) and points (18).
Ivo was also named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week for his efforts. He receives the weekly honors for the second time of the season (Sept. 27).
