Senior Craig Hill Named C-USA Player Of The Week

Nov. 1, 2010

IRVING, Texas (SMU) - SMU men's soccer player Craig Hill was named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week. The senior goalkeeper led the Mustangs to a 2-0 shutout over conference rival Kentucky Saturday night. With the win, SMU clinched the C-USA regular season title and a bye in the first round of the conference tournament. SMU is now 14-1-0 on the season and holds a 6-1-0 mark in C-USA action.

Hill, the Mustangs' senior captain, made five saves on the evening to earn a clean sheet in his final regular season home game at Westcott Field. His biggest test came in the 26th minute when Kentucky's Matt Lodge fired a bullet on goal, but Hill made a spectacular diving save to preserve the 2-0 Mustang lead. The shutout was Hill's third of the season and SMU's second consecutive shutout. Hill and freshman Jaime Ibarra teamed up to blank Memphis 3-0 Oct. 23.

Hill was also named to the College Soccer News Team of the Week for his efforts.

The weekly honor is the first of the year for Hill and the second of his career (Oct. 27, 2008).

SMU heads to Miami to face FIU in the final game of the regular season Nov. 5 at 6 p.m.
