What happened to men's track?

I only recently learned that SMU has dropped men's track. When did this happen and what's the story -- not just Copeland's rationale -- behind the decision?

It happened last spring. There were two reasons. 1. The athletic department was running a deficit and needed to cut costs. 2. Title IX. In order to keep a men's track team we would have had to add one or two more women's sports (which the school couldn't afford to do). So, we cut men's track. That is probably the real non-politically correct reason.
