The SMU Volleyball team opens the 2004 season by hosting the SMU Invitational at Moody Coliseum September 3 and 4. The Mustangs face Texas Friday evening at 6:00 p..m and follow with two matches Saturday; Northern Arizona at 1:00 p.m. and Cal Poly at 7:30 p.m. The Mustangs return five starters from a squad that went 23-7 last season, winning the WAC Eastern Division with an 11-2 league record. The team is 4-4 in openers and 5-3 in home openers. The Mustangs went 2-1 in the 2003 SMU Invitational, defeating Stephen F. Austin 3-1 and UT-Chattanooga 3-0 before a 3-0 loss to Arizona State.

Match Information: Match 1 - University of Texas in the SMU Invitational. The all-time series is tied at 1-1 with SMU winning the most recent match 3-0 at Moody Coliseum 10/2/2000. Texas won the first meeting 3-0 in Austin 9/7/1999. Match 2 - This is SMU's first ever meeting against Northern Arizona. Match 3 - Cal Poly is 2-0 all-time against SMU , including a 3-2 win last season at Cal Poly.

Head Coach Lisa Seifert...is in her ninth season at the helm of the Mustangs. She is the only coach in the program's history and has a 119-127 (.484) record. She was named WAC Coach of the year in 2003 as the Mustangs won the WAC Eastern Division with an 11-2 league record. The 23-7 (.767) record in 2003 was the most wins in team history and the second 20-win season after a 20-13 mark in 1999.
