What a night.

Ponies were playing Tulsa for the third time this season, and TU was vastly improved over its first visit to Westcott Field, when the Ponies spanked 'em, 4-0.

SMU had the upper hand early on, with most of the offensive chances until Alex Smith scored in the second half (Jay Neeham drove toward the net, crossed the ball and Smith jumped on the loose ball and scored lefty from a few yards out). Tulsa scored a few minutes later on a penalty kick, and scored the winner in the second overtime on a free kick from about 20 yards out. Perfect shot into the upper right corner -- there's not a goalie a live who could have stopped it. No way T.J. Tomasso could be blamed for it -- he played great tonight.

Thanks for a great run, Ponies, and for leaving it all on the field tonight. You guys fought your hearts out.

Special thanks to the seniors: T.J. Tomasso, Ugo Ihemelu, Ross Spencer, Ryan Latham, Jake Jackson, Adam Robertson -- great Mustangs, one and all.

I had never seen a college soccer game before the UC game earlier this week. The Mustangs are STUDS! Great season, guys! Hold your heads high! We're all proud of you!

He made several amazing saves in OT just to keep us alive that long. We just seemed to run out of gas at the end.

Bamba Fall couldn't have reached that ball - it was a simply perfect shot. T.J. had a terrific career at SMU, and his senior season was sensational. He easily could have crumbled this season after an up-and-down junior year and with the arrival of Steve Sanbo (best HS goalkeeper in America last year), but he was terrific this year. He's kept the bar pretty high for GKs at SMU, continuing a tradition of excellence that includes T.J., Byron Foss, Tom Presthus, John Howard, Matt Frederick, etc. Sanbo is a stud, and he needs to show it next year to maintain the standard of great SMU goalies.

Thanks for everything to T.J. and the rest of the seniors, and to the whole team for another stellar season.
Rise up, Mustang Nation!
Go SMU!

Any word if any underclassmen are going pro (like Mynor Gonzales).

I don't think Mynor is going pro. Ugo Ihemelu has a huge MLS career ahead of him, and T.J. might be able to play pro, too. There are some young guys (Gonzalez, Alex Smith, David Chun, Jay Needham) who could make MLS, but they need more seasoning. I don't think we'll lose anyone.
