With the 21st pick overall, also in Round Two, New England took Southern Methodist University forward Ryan Latham. In four years at SMU, the Rockwall, Texas native appeared in 70 games, scoring 22 goals and assisting eight goals. In the 2004 Missouri Valley Conference Championship game, Latham completed an SMU come-from-behind victory by scoring with 0:22 seconds remaining to give the Mustangs a 2-1 victory over Tulsa.
