Jay turns down DC United's meager contract offer and signs with the Puerto Islanders of the USL, a first division team (the article below erroneously states that the Islanders are a 2nd division team).

He will play in front of former UCSB Gaucho and all American Danny Kennedy the keeper, who in 2005 earned Rookie of the Year honors for USL division 1.

Probably a better opportunity for Jay at this time. He can prove he can play at the next level and hopefully move up to MLS or find something in Europe. This move is also probably more about getting to play on a regular basis than the fatter contract he is getting.

I find it pretty surprising that the amounts offered were $17,500 for the first year in a pro soccer league with a national tv contract. He would have gotten some minutes with United. But money talks and .... walks.
