Knost, Ackerson Named C-USA Golfers Of The Week
SMU Student-Athletes Win 11th Award Of The Season

IRVING (C-USA/SMU) - SMU senior Colt Knost and sophomore Kate Ackerson earned Conference USA Men's and Women's Golfer of the Week honors, respectively, for tournament play through March 20, the league announced today. Knost tied for second place at the prestigious Pinehurst Intercollegiate, while Ackerson picks up her second Golfer of the Week award this year by placing fifth at the Betsy Rawls Invitational.

After winning the event the last two years, Knost fell just two strokes short of the three-peat and tied for second place at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate in Pinehurst, N.C. Knost carded a 71-72-72=215 (-1) to lead the Mustangs to a tie for fifth place in the team standings out of a field of 18. This is Knost's fourth honor of the year, having also won on Sept. 20, Oct. 11 & Feb. 14, and is the fifth for the Mustang team as Frank Wrenn was honored on Feb. 28.

Ackerson placed fifth at the 34th Annual Betsy Rawls Invitational in Austin, Texas, played at the par-72, 6,323-yard University of Texas Golf Club. She carded a 71 in the final round, and finished the tournament with a 222 (78-73-71) to lead the Mustangs to a fifth-place finish. This is Ackerson's second Golfer of the Week award, having won on Feb. 21, and is the fifth honor for her family, as her older sister, SMU senior Jennifer Ackerson, was C-USA GOW two times earlier this season and claimed WAC Golfer of the Week accolades once in 2004-05. This also marks the sixth time an SMU women's golfer has been recognized in 2006-07 as junior Lacey Jones has also won twice this season.
