SMU on national TV?

Postby giacfsp » Tue Oct 23, 2007 2:49 pm

Anyone know a place that will be showing the men's soccer game tomorrow night? This is a huge game for SMU and sets up as a nice matchup: we're excellent, they're almost excellent (but they'll have home-field advantage). We have a legendary coach, they have a coach going for his 400th career win.

This game is going to be huge in C-USA tournament seedings, and I want to see it. Any ideas? The Dubliner? The Blarney Stone? Trinity Hall Irish Pub?

2-1 SMU win.

SMU got goals about 4 mins. into the 2nd half and then another one with about 9:30 left. SC got a PK goal with about 1:30 left.

too bad they couldn't get the shutout, but it was a solid win.

we pretty much dominated much of the game. south carolina does not look nearly as good as they did last year. we shoulda won 2-0, conceded a pk with less than 2 min to go. big win on the road for us

Fun game to watch. I haven't seen them before last night (planning on going to Lexington to see the UK game) but they seem to play to control the action. Much of the game was in the SC end, with few chances for SC to score. The defense played terrifically as did the midfielders. There was some question among the announcers as to the validity of the penalty which allowed the PK. Looked like the kid just tripped up and wasn't fouled. Good win.

It also looked like the kid was tripped (if at all) outside of the box and fell (dove) into the box. But a W is a W. That 2nd goal was pretty cool. Saintos just played with the ball occupying 2 or three defenders, then flipped it out to Lopez, who crossed it perfectly to Guarda.

You're absolutely right. Considering the fact that most officials don't have the guts to call some fouls inside the box (seriously - seems like 50 percent of all fouls happen within a foot OUTSIDE the box), it was a little surprising that he called that one inside the box. Contact was made a good 5 feet outside, and to the SC guy's credit, he did a beautiful dive into the box, and a hell of an acting job.
