DEBRECEN, Hungary (SMU)--Mustang swimmer Anja Carman took gold Sunday in the 200m backstroke at the European Short Course Championships. Her performance capped four days of success for current and former SMU athletes.

Carman placed third in the qualifying heats, touching the wall in 2:07.12. In the finals, Carman turned it on and knocked nearly two full seconds off her time to win, clocking a time of 2:05.20, beating the current European record holder by almost four tenths of a second.

Petra Klosova and Angela San Juan Cisneros both competed in the 50m free, but neither made it past the qualifying heats. Klosova finished 29th in 25.69, while San Juan Cisneros placed 32nd with a time of 25.73.

Former Mustang Flavia Rigamonti swam the 200m free event, clocking a time of 1:59.09.

In men's events, former Mustangs Lars Froelander and Per Nylin competed Sunday as well. Froelander swam the 50m fly, finishing 15th in the qualifying heats (24.00) and ninth in the semis (23.62). Nylin swam the finals of the 100m IM, finishing eighth in 55.04. Nylin was also a member of the 4x50m free relay that took gold and set a new world record. The squad finished the course in 1:24.19, beating the old world record by seven-tenths of a second.
