SMU Hockey

Postby PonyKai » Wed Jan 23, 2008 2:41 pm

While we aren't as close to Top 25 status as our friends in on the lacrosse team, SMU fields a club ice hockey team as well. Coming off a two game sweep of University of Texas San Antonio, we head down to San Antonio for another two game set.

Insider information: I hear you guys give the refs so much hell that they unionized against SMU hockey. No one will ref your games? Any of this true?

It's a two way street, but yes. We have a great deal of trouble with the leader of the organization. Last year we had 21 reported incidents, and 19 of them belonged to one player, who graduated.

They played hard ball to start the year so our schedule was delayed, but they ref for us again.

Lacrosse team had to win back the refs about 6 years ago due to a couple of guys giving SMU its typical reputation. Best thing you can do is cut those guys. They will drown your program. It makes a world of difference to have the referees give you love. Imagine being the teams that you guys play against. Their lives must be easy considering they have the referees 'on their side.' If SMU Hockey had that, well, look out. Good luck and bring it back with class and character...

Right now we stand at 2-3 with losses to Baylor and UNT, with two wins over UTSA. Around Dallas we play at the Dr. Pepper Star Centers, Duncanville, Frisco, etc.

Last year we went 12-6.

The games are really fun and usually high scoring, which adds to the excitement. Can you post a schedule for us STL

Can you whack people with the lacrosse stick? Trip them?

pretty sure the lax team plays at 7

you can use your stick to hit the opponent's stick, if he moves his stick out of the way and you happen to hit him above the waist and below the neck, it is legal as long as you 'intended' to hit his stick.

no tripping, but big hits aloud.
