SMU Women's Swimming and Diving Sweeps Weekly C-USA Awards

Klosova Named Swimmer of the Week, Yancey Named Diver of the Week

Feb. 12, 2008

IRVING, Texas (SMU)--SMU swept the weekly Conference USA swimming and diving awards for the third time this season as Petra Klosova was named C-USA Swimmer of the Week and Britney Yancey was named C-USA Diver of the Week.

Klosova notched a career-best time in the 200 back against No. 17 Texas to help the Mustangs to a narrow 123-118 victory Saturday. Her time of 2:00.15 was good for second place in the event and NCAA consideration, and bettered her old mark by over a second. Klosova was also the top SMU finisher in the 50 free, as she clocked a time of 23.48, just three-tenths of a second behind the event-winner from Texas and just outside NCAA consideration. In addition, Klosova swam the second leg of the 200 free relay that broke the pool record. The squad of Candace Blackman, Klosova, Angela San Juan Cisneros and Elzanne Werth finished in 1:33.29, breaking the old record by three one-hundredths of a second. This is the second weekly award for Klosova this season and the fifth of her career.

Yancey also picks up her second weekly honor this week. The sophomore transfer was the top SMU finisher in both the one- and three-meter boards against No. 17 Texas on Saturday. On the one-meter, Yancey compiled a score of 280.34, just edging teammate Audra Egenolf to grad second place. On the three-meter board, Yancey closed the gap on Longhorn diver Mary Yarrison, a two-time Big 12 Diver of the Week. Yancey finished just 10 points behind Yarrison, capturing second place with a total of 307.20 points. Her efforts helped lead the Mustangs to their 123-118 victory.

The Mustangs are back in action this weekend, Feb. 15-18, at the Missouri Grand Prix in Columbia, Missouri, before heading to Houston for the Conference USA Championships, Feb. 27-March 1. For the complete schedule and results, log on to SMUMustangs.com.
