No. 60 Women's Tennis To Face No. 33 TCU Wednesday
Mustangs (8-2) Take on Frogs (3-2) in Ft. Worth

Feb. 25, 2008

DALLAS (SMU)--The No. 60 SMU women's tennis teams will face crosstown rival, No. 33 TCU Wednesday evening at 6:00pm in Ft. Worth.

SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS: SMU has compiled an 8-2 record overall this season, with their only losses coming to then-No. 44 NC State and then-No. 15 Duke. The Mustangs are led in singles by No. 73 Natalia Bubien, who has a 7-2 record, including two wins over nationally-ranked opponents. Kseniia Tokarieva has an 8-2 singles record and a reputation for silently dismantling her opponents in the middle of the lineup. The Mustangs have also gotten strong outings from Pavi Francis in the second and third slots (7-3 overall) and Kristen Reid (6-3), mostly at No. 4. In doubles, the Mustangs boast the 38th-ranked pair in the country in Nicole Briceno and Tokarieva, who have a nearly perfect 8-1 record. The highlight of Briceno/Tokarieva's season so far was an upset over then-No. 21 Nze/Plotkin of Duke.

LAST TIME OUT: The Mustangs swept the weekend, beating Conference USA rival Houston, 7-0, on Saturday and Texas A&M Corpus Christi, 5-0, on Sunday. Against the Cougars, SMU won all three doubles matches and all six singles matches. Tokarieva dominated her singles match Saturday, as did Francis and Yanoff both. Bubien's match was closer, but was still a convincing straight-set victory. Briceno played the closest match of the day, dropping her first set, but coming back to win the second, 6-2 and the third 10-6 in the super tiebreaker to tally the final point for SMU. Against the Islanders, the Mustangs again dominated doubles play, with Tokarieva/Briceno clinching the doubles point for SMU. In singles, the Mustangs won four before calling the match. Francis and Tokarieva were particularly efficient, each dispatching their opponents in 6-0 straight sets.

SCOUTING THE HORNED FROGS: The Frogs have been slowly moving up the ITA polls since the beginning of the season. TCU (3-2) now stands at No. 33 and are likely to move up again, having just beaten No. 16 William & Mary, 4-3, on Sunday. The Frogs are led in doubles by 11th-ranked Anna Sydorska and Macall Harkins, who own a perfect 4-0 record this season. Sydorska (4-1) also leads the Frogs in singles play, riding a four-match win streak coming into Wednesday's match-up. Freshmen Idunn Hertzberg and Katariina Tuohimaa each came up with wins against William & Mary and each boast a 3-2 singles record for the Frogs.

RESULTS: The complete results and match recap will be available on SMUMustangs.com at the completion of the match.

ON THE HORIZON: Up next, the Mustangs will host No. 73 Texas Tech on Feb. 29 before traveling to face No. 38 UNLV in Las Vegas on March 2.
