Is he now ineligible per NCAA?

Congrats to him, nonetheless.

Is it safe to assume his grandfather has the inside track on recruiting him?

If not - no more birthday presents.

The great Drew Dougherty (SMU grad, now Lubbock TV wonk) even pimped Coach Hyndman's grandson on his blog. Way to alert the folks out west about the great soccer at SMU.

I believe it is possible to attend a professional club sponsored soccer academy on a full time basis (sort of a boarding school that has soccer as its primary emphasisl) and retain NCAA elgibility. However, I believe it would thave to be carefully structured. Hopefully, this will be done so the kid retains his college elgibility in case the pro career does not work out.

No way he's playing in college, even for his grandfather. The money in these cases is astronomical. Congratulations to Emerson and the entire Hyndman family.
