Men's Tennis Hosts Southeastern Louisiana Wednesday in Midweek Match-Up

Mustangs (14-7) Take on Lions (13-5) at Turpin Tennis Stadium

DALLAS (SMU)--The SMU men's tennis team hosts Southeastern Louisiana in a midweek match this Wednesday, April 2 at 2pm at the Turpin Tennis Stadium on campus.

Scouting the Mustangs: The Mustangs are 14-7 on the season after splitting the week's decisions. SMU fell to then-No. 18 Baylor last Thursday, but rebounded to beat Conference USA rival Memphis on Saturday. As a team, the Ponies are 88-38 (.698) in singles and 29-20 (.592) in doubles. SMU is led in singles by Alex Skrypko, David Kuczer (#123) and Robin Fahgen (#80). Skrypko is in the midst of an eight-match winning streak, seven of which have been straight-sets victories. Kuczer is 14-4 on the season, going 8-2 in his last 10 matches. Fahgen was out for two matches, but came back strong against Memphis, winning his match at No. 3, in efficient 6-1, 6-1 straight sets. Fahgen is now 12-5 on the season.

Last Time Out: The Mustangs defeated C-USA rival Memphis Saturday, taking the match, 6-1. SMU started the day by taking the doubles point, winning at No. 2, 9-7, and at No. 3, 8-4. In singles, Fahgen began by taking his match with workman-like efficiency, defeating Jordan Smith, 6-1, 6-1. Oivind Alver continued the Mustangs' success by taking down M. Gaerthoeffner at No. 4, 6-2, 6-4. Adolfo Solares notched the nest point for SMU, besting Benedikt Fischer at No. 6, 6-4, 7-5. Kuczer took a close 7-5, 6-3 decision at No. 1 over Amrit Narasimham, while Chris Hooshyar battled to a three-set super tie-breaker loss at No. 5 to Charlie Ramsay, 3-6, 6-3, 11-9. Skrypko wrapped up the match for the Mustangs, taking a three-set victory over Leon Nasemann at No. 2.


Scouting the Lions: The Southeastern Louisiana Lions are 13-5 on the season, and 2-1 in the Southland Conference. The Lions have been without the services of two of their best players in recent matches, but are led in singles by freshmen Julien Roussel (15-3) and Alexis Biarneix (14-4). Roussel's only losses have come to Gwen Corches of Baylor, Allan Gomes of Lamar and R.J. Nagel of South Alabama. Meanwhile, Biarneix has lost to Baylor, West Florida, Morehead State and Jackson State. In doubles, the Lions are led by the pair of Matthieu Leboucher and Roussel, who have a 5-2 record, mostly at No. 1. As a team, the Lions are 72-36 (.667) in singles and 31-23 (.574) in doubles.

On the Horizon: The Mustangs will host a double-header Sunday, April 6, featuring C-USA rival No. 19 Rice at noon, followed by Grambling State at 4pm. Both matches will be held at the Turpin Tennis Stadium on campus.
