Fjortoft Sets New Stadium Record
Freshman Wins 3,000M, Mueller, Forish Also Claim Victories

DENTON, Texas (SMU) - SMU freshman Silje Fjortoft ran away from the field again in winning the 3,000m at the North Texas Classic on Friday, April 11, crossing the line in 9:32.78 to break the meet and Fouts Field records. Fjortoft finished over a minute ahead of teammates Jessa Simmons and Krystal Rodriguez, who finished second and third.

Also winning on Friday were Christina Mueller and Rachael Forish, who took first in the discus and 1,500m, respectively. Mueller threw 50.25m to qualify for NCAA Regionals, while Forish crossed in 4:51.68 to outpace the field.

Lauren Kuhner also notched an NCAA Regional-qualifying mark, throwing the hammer 56.27m to finish second in the event. Gayla Cloud missed an NCAA Regional mark by 1/100th of a second, finishing second in the 100m hurdles in 13.93.


SMU will continue its season tomorrow, as two throwers will compete at the John Jacobs Invitational in Norman, Okla., on Saturday, April 12.
