Losing Coach Hyndman would be a very bad thing. Yes, there would be good candidates interested in the job, so good that I don't think it's anywhere near a sure thing that Kevin Grimes or Tim McClements would get the job (although certainly not out of the realm of possibility). But Coach Hyndman has been the living definition of stability and success at SMU for nearly a quarter of a century. He is a smart, fair, tough, classy, first-rate coach.

If he does leave, and I sure hope he doesn't, his replacement is going to feel like Aaron Rodgers.

Anyone have any updates?

Losing Coach would be a dark day in SMU history.

A note in "3rd degree" the independent FC Dallas board states that Schellas will be announced as the new FC Dallas coach either Monday or Tuesday. It also claims that John Elligner the former Real Salt Lake manager and current Technical Director of US soccer will be his assistant. There is also a comment elsewhere that there is an apparent deteriorating relationship between Schellas and Orsini.

Well it is confirmed that John Elligner has departed US Youth Soccer for another position. Since the headquarters of US Youth Soccer are located at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, all he has to do is walk across the street to join Schellas if Schellas is indeed the new manager.

from Monday's DMN:

FRISCO – Schellas Hyndman, a candidate to take over as FC Dallas' fifth head coach, watched the club's 1-0 win over Chicago from the stands.

Hyndman, SMU's men's coach since 1984, said the timing wasn't appropriate for him to comment on whether he has been offered the post, but mentioned that he was a candidate.

"I'm still in the hunt. I'm still their candidate," Hyndman said during halftime.

Although I hate to lose a great coach, our soccer program is well known and respected across the country (and probably the world). I'm sure we would have a number of great coaches lining up for the job if it opens.

This isn't exactly the same as JJ leaving after one year or something. I think we'll be fine. It's really a sign of how successful our soccer program has been - we should be proud of that.

I am more concerned about the possible negative effect that a coaching change will on our signees and recruits. Schellas has been a good coach but still has never gotten us to 'big championship'.

GO PONIES!!!
