Ackerson Named NGCA All-American Scholar
Senior-To-Be Earns Fourth Academic Honor Of The Year

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. (SMU) - For the third straight year, SMU's Kate Ackerson has been named a National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar, the organization announced today. It is the fourth academic honor of the year for the All-Conference USA golfer, as she was also named the 2007-08 C-USA Scholar Athlete of the Year and tabbed to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District squad and the Conference USA All-Academic Team.

Ackerson was one of 402 women's collegiate golfers recognized with this prestigious honor. The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent of all college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 and student-athletes must have
competed in at least 50% (Division I) of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.

"Being an NGCA Academic All-American while also being named All-Conference USA is indicative of Kate's hard work both on the course and in the classroom," said SMU head coach Todd Selders. "I'm very proud of her."

The National Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches. Today, the NGCA represents nearly 500 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
