A big loss but it is not as if the well is dry. Assuming this is true, at this point we do not know all the facts as to why he decided to turn pro. I hope it turns out well for him. Maybe he will end up at FC Dallas.

the MLS "weighted lottery" for Bruno will be tomorrow. Do not ask me to explain it, but it looks like FC Dallas has a good chance to get him. This may have been a plan put together by Schellas to avoid Bruno going into the MLS draft next year as he would have been a top draft choice.

This is like Dirk Nowitzki leaving right before training camp opens.
There are a lot of players left - including some great players - but Bruno makes the team go.
Thanks for your brilliant play over the years, and good luck in MLS.

Wonder where they got that - paper doesn't list a source of any kind.
This sucks - he's an awesome player.

"Awesome" is right, but thankfully there's a lot of talent coming back, and there's a huge cavalry of talent coming in this fall.

freshman talent and remaining talent does not compare to bruno, he was fantastic and will be sorely missed. the two most important components to the men soccer team have left in the span of about a month, could be trouble next year

People come and people go. Schellas built a solid on-going program. We will be fine.

Won't it be fun when we start talking about SMU football & basketball players who decide to 'turn pro'? ;)

The program will be fine. Soccer is a sport that does not allow for too many superstars, and given the talent that Schellas has brought in I think you will be surprised by who steps up and becomes the mainstay of the team next season.

Additional info on Guarda:

Commerce City, CO (Sports Network) - The Colorado Rapids announced on Wednesday that the club has added former Southern Methodist University midfielder Bruno Guarda after winning a league lottery for the right yesterday. Per club and league policies terms were not disclosed.

Following his signing with Major League Soccer, Guarda waited to be assigned to his new club via the league's lottery system. With 12 MLS sides jockeying for his services, the Rapids stood at an eight percent chance of landing the two-time Conference USA Player of the Year.

"Bruno is a skillful, creative midfielder who comes to us with a very impressive resume," said head coach Fernando Clavijo. "As a team, we were fortunate to win this lottery for such a talented, technical player."

Guarda established himself as one of the nation's best collegiate players during his time at SMU finishing his three-year career (2005-2007) with the Mustangs scoring 15 goals and recording 17 assists in 63 games. The Brazilian was also a semifinalist for the Hermann Trophy in both 2006 and 2007.

Guarda will take the roster spot of goalkeeper Justin Hughes, who was placed on the Rapids' season ending injury list after undergoing successful surgery to his right shoulder.
