Men's Soccer Continues Climb In National Polls
West Coast trip boosts Mustangs to No. 4 in NSCAA

Sept. 10, 2008

DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU men's soccer team, still undefeated after two extremely tough road trips, continued its climb through the rankings of the elite teams in the nation.

After the Mustangs shut out perennial power Stanford, 2-0, and then tied No. 7 Cal on its home field, all three polls bumped the Ponies higher in the polls. The Ponies jumped to No. 5 in the newest Soccer America magazine poll, No. 4 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll and No. 3 in the collegesoccernews.com.

The Mustangs begin the home portion of their schedule this weekend when they host the Prego's Express Italian Men's Soccer Invitational at Westcott Field.

The tournament opens at 5 p.m. when Oakland plays No. 15 (and SMU's Conference USA rival) Tulsa, followed at 7:30 p.m. by George Mason and SMU. The second round will be played Saturday, when Tulsa squares off with George Mason at 5 p.m. and SMU against Oakland at 7:30.
