Women's Soccer Falls At No. 2 Notre Dame
Ponies suffer season's first road loss


SOUTH BEND, IND. (SMU) - The SMU women's soccer team ventured into one of the toughest venues in the country and withstood a furious offensive attack from Notre Dame - which is ranked No. 2 in the country in the current National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll - before bowing, 5-0.

The Mustangs' offense was led by a pair of freshmen, Logan May and Sarah Catherine Ryan, each of whom registered a pair of shots.

The Irish got the game-winning goal and an insurance goal in the 20th minute by Courtney Rosen and 40th minute by Molly Campbell, respectively, but were denied additional scoring chances by senior SMU goalkeeper Ashley Gunter, who made five saves before the intermission, and eight in the game.

The Mustangs (1-3-1) now head to Muncie, Ind., where they will take on Ball State at 12 p.m. Sunday, before heading west next weekend to face Cal State Fullerton and No. 1 USC. SMU then returns home to Westcott Field Sept. 26 to play Colorado College in the first game against Conference USA competition.
