SMU Volleyball Tops Georgia State In Four Sets
Mustangs Set Season-High Eight Aces



Dallas (SMU)-SMU volleyball (7-5) dropped Georgia State (0-10) in four sets (25-13, 25-22, 25-27, 25-17) Friday, September 19 in the Denver Invitational at Hamilton Gymnasium. In her quest to become SMU's all-time blocker, Senior Natalie Peters now has 415 blocks. She is only 29 blocks away from number one.

The Mustangs ended the match strong hitting .366 in the fourth set. The offense was led by Junior Kendra Kahanek who had four kills for a .667 hitting percentage. Kahanek was followed closely by an impressive Dana Powell performance who had eight kills and a .538 hitting percentage. Powell, a freshman, ended the match with a team-high 19 digs.

Sophomore Caitlin Adair, Kahanek, and Junior Stefanie Kons all hit .500, despite SMU relinquishing the third set to the Panthers. Powell added two aces.

The Mustangs fended off a late Panther charge to take the second set 25-22. Wilkerson performed solidly with five kills on her way to a .400 hitting percentage and contributing an ace.

In the first set, the Mustangs took control with the relentless serving of Wilkerson and Peters, who combined for a total of three aces. A quartet of Mustangs combined for a season-high eight aces in the match.

The Mustangs take on the UNLV Rebels (5-5) tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. at Hamilton Gymnasium in their second match of the Denver Invitational.
