SMU Women's Swimming And Diving Ties For Second At Swim Classic
Mustang Audra Egenolf Garners High-Point Diver Award

DALLAS (SMU)-SMU women's swimming and diving finished in a second-place tie with the University of North Carolina Saturday night at the finale of the SMU Women's Swimming and Diving Classic in Joe Perkins Natatorium. Sophomore Audra Egenolf earned High-Point Diver honors for her first place performances in the one-meter and three-meter springboard, with scores of 285.70 and 340.05 respectively.

SMU's relay teams performed impressively well in the 200 and 400 free relays last night, as the 200 free team glided to a first place finish with new meet and pool records, along with a NCAA qualifying time of 1:32.80. The Mustangs finished second in the 400 free relay at 3:22.79, behind a USC team that broke the meet and pool record touching in at 3:21.49.

In the 200 breast, USC's Rebecca Soni felled another meet and pool record with a time of 2:09.12, and consequently qualified for the NCAAs in the event. Junior Devon Callaghan and sophomore Sascha Van den Branden placed fifth in the Championship and Consolation Finals respectively. Callaghan also placed fifth in the Championship Final of the 200 IM clocking a 2:05.65, while sophomore Maroua Mathlouthi finished fifth in the Consolation Final.

As well, Mathlouthi had a fourth place finish in the 500 free of the Championship Final with a time of 4:59.16. USC freshman Katinka Hosszu came in first in the event, breaking the meet and pool record in 4:47.67.

In the 200 back, senior Petra Klosova earned a fifth place finish in the Championship Final touching in at 2:02.15. Freshman Denisa Smolenova placed sixth in the Consolation Final. Smolenova also swam in the 200 fly Championship Final, finishing fourth with a time of 2:03.19. Freshman Christy-Leigh Lategan came in second in the Consolation Final at 2:03.80. Another USC swimmer, Tanya Krisman, claimed a new meet and pool record in the 200 fly with a time of 1:56.71.

Senior Mustang Candace Blackman pulled off another great performance in the pool with a first place finish in the 100 free clocking in at 50.26 in the Championship Final. Sophomore Elzanne Werth took first in the Consolation Final with a time of 51.77.

The Mustangs will be back in action on Saturday in head to head competition with Penn State at 2:00 p.m. in Joe Perkins Natatori
