SMU Women's Soccer Headed To C-USA Championship
Win in home finale clinches berth

Oct. 27, 2008

DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU women's soccer team has clinched a berth in the Conference USA Championship with one regular-season game still remaining, the C-USA office announced Monday.

The tournament will be held Nov. 5-9 at Rice Soccer Stadium in Houston.

The Mustangs earned the postseason berth by routing Southern Miss, 4-0, in the home finale at Westcott Field Sunday afternoon, thanks to a game-winning goal by senior defender Carley Phillips, Sarah Catherine Ryan's first collegiate goal and a pair of scores from freshman Mary Connally.

The Ponies will close out the regular season Friday night at Tulsa, before heading to Houston for the conference tournament next week.

First game is Wednesday, Nov. 5. Game times on that date are 12:00, 2:30, 5:30, and 8:00, but I guess the seeding won't be known until this weekend.

We'll be the 8th seed...no way mathmatically to move up.

Will have to go against East Carolina or Memphis at some point anyway. Might as well knock 'em out in the first round.

Maybe we do get knocked out ... but maybe we don't.
Personally, I agree that Memphis is a tough match-up, but there's no reason we can't play with East Carolina. They have a nice record, but there's nothing dominant about that team. Will we win if we play them? Who knows? But we've got a shot. I wouldn't have wanted that matchup earlier this season, but there are signs that some of the younger players are coming of age, and joining the leaders as players ready to compete game-in and game-out. We looked damn good Sunday. No, it wasn't against North Carolina or USC, but we looked a hell of a lot better than we did earlier in the season.

Good luck in Houston, Ponies!

I said knock THEM out. I saw the Memphis game. They had a great attack, but having played them recently will help us prepare. It looked like each Memphis goal just scraped the post. It's time for a little luck to fall on the side of the Ponies.

My mistake - I misread your other post.
I wasn't at the game out at ECU, but talked to a couple of people who were, and was under the impression they're a team we can beat.
What the hell, let's take out both of the top seeds!
