Ivo Named NSCAA National Player of the Week

DALLAS (SMU) - SMU men's soccer player Arthur Ivo has been named NSCAA National Player of the Week. The junior midfielder scored two goals, both on free kicks, and assisted on two other tallies as No. 5 SMU defeated conference rivals No. 17 Tulsa and Memphis. With the wins, SMU clinched a berth in the 2010 Conference USA Men's Soccer Championships and took over the top spot in the conference rankings. SMU is now 13-1-0 on the season and holds a 5-1-0 mark in C-USA action.

On Oct. 20 in a 3-2 win against No. 17 Tulsa, Ivo netted a goal in the 62nd minute on a free kick, firing a shot from 40 yards out to tie the game at two. Ivo then assisted on the game-winner as he fed a ball to Robbie Derschang, who dribbled 40 yards downfield before sending the ball into the far upper 90 for the win. Saturday in a 3-0 win over Memphis, Ivo netted a goal in the 49th minute on a set piece from 20 yards out, firing the ball just inside the right post for his seventh goal of the year. He also assisted on a goal when he set up for another free kick just outside the box and hit the crossbar, only to have teammate Leone Cruz follow with the put-back goal.

Ivo has now converted free kicks in back-to-back games for the Mustangs and has collected at least one point in four consecutive games. He ranks second on the team in goals (7), assists (4) and points (18).
