Lesniak Earns Second Straight Honor; The Third Of Her Career

IRVING, Texas (SMU/C-USA)- SMU junior Marta Lesniak posted impressive performances to earn the C-USA Women's Tennis Athlete of the Month honor for October. Lesniak, ranked No. 22, earned her second-straight monthly honor. She went 10-2 in singles play, including a 6-1 mark against ranked opponents, en route to qualifying for the ITA National Indoor Championships.

Lesniak, ranked 22nd in the nation, went 10-2 in singles with a 6-1 mark against ranked opponents in October. She advanced to the quarterfinal round of the ITA All-American and the title match of the ITA Regional en route to qualifying for the ITA National Indoor Championships. Lesniak's 6-1 mark against ranked singles competition included straight-set wins over the No. 20 and No. 33 players. Her only loss to a ranked foe came in a third-set tiebreaker to No. 7 Denise Dy of Washington in the quarterfinal at the ITA All-American.

In doubles, Lesniak partnered with Heather Steinbauer as the No. 47 ranked pair also reached the doubles title match at the ITA Regional. That followed a trip to the qualifying round of 16 at the ITA All-American. As a result of advancing to the quarterfinals at the Riviera ITA All-American Tournament, Lesniak qualified for the ITA National Indoor Championships that begins Nov. 4 in Flushing, N.Y. Lesniak earns her third Athlete of the Month honor of her career and second-consecutive honor of the season.
