Volleyball Upends Marshall, 3-1

DALLAS (SMU) --- The SMU volleyball team topped the Marshall Thundering Herd, 3-1 (19-25, 25-22, 27-25, 25-21), on Friday evening at Moody Coliseum. The Mustangs lost the first set and fell behind in the second game, but rallied to win their third consecutive match.
SMU had three players with double-digit kills in the match. Dana Powell led the team with 16 kills and totaled 16 digs to tally her team leading 18th double-double of the season. Kathryn Wilkerson and Jessica Oliver followed with 14 and 12 kills, respectively.
Mustang setter Kelli Becerra tied for a match-high with 53 assists. The total is the second highest for Becerra this season. The junior also added in five kills on nine attacks for a match-high .444 hitting percentage.
Caitlin Adair, who earlier in the day was named to CoSIDA's Academic All-District first team, registered nine kills and three blocks.
With the win, SMU moves to 20-5 overall this season and 12-2 in league play. The Mustangs maintain second place in Conference USA. The Ponies reach the 20-win plateau for the third time in program history and first since 2003.
The Mustangs return to the court on Sunday and host East Carolina. SMU defeated the Pirates earlier this season, 3-0.
