In his first two years on The Hilltop, SMU midfielder Arthur Ivo posted relatively modest stats, tallying four goals and five assists over two seasons. This year, Ivo burst out for nine goals and five assists, finishing second on the team in scoring and earning a share of the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year award.

Ivo visited recently with PonyFans.com to discuss what prompted his improvement, and his circuitous route to SMU.

I always like players who can change their roles and their perceptions of themselves. This guy sounds like one of those guys who can do a little of everything (or a lot of everything). For Coach M to call him "the most gifted player I have ever coached" ... that says a lot. He has had outstanding players at SMU (as both an assistant and head coach), and Vanderbilt has had some exceptional players, too.

Beat W&M!

Cool story. You don't read a lot about players leaving Brazil for the U.S. ... and its soccer opportunities. Sounds like he has made the most of his opportunity.

Keep it going, guys. Beat UNC!
