Postby DanFreibergerForHeisman » Sun Oct 16, 2011 9:45 am

The busy sports weekend on The Hilltop reaches its conclusion with SMU (7-4-1, 2-1-1) facing FIU (4-5-3, 1-2-1) in a big C-USA match at 7pm.

The Mustangs need to keep winning to climb back into the regular season conference race. Results this weekend have been favorable for SMU, with South Carolina beating Marshall and UCF falling to UAB yesterday. Memphis is at Tulsa this afternoon.

A win tonight will take SMU into a tie for second place in the conference. The current standings:

1. 4-1-0 12 South Carolina
2. 3-1-1 10 Marshall
3. 2-1-1 7 SMU
3. 2-1-1 7 UCF
5. 2-1-0 6 UAB
6. 1-2-1 4 FIU
7. 1-2-0 3 Memphis
8. 1-4-0 3 Kentucky
9. 0-3-0 0 Tulsa

2-1 win in O.T. Had me worried for a minute. Way to step it up and get the win.

Nice OT win as SMU crashes the net and fires three or four shots in rapid succession before Diogo de Almeida buries it.

NICE!!! When we left SMU was down 0-1. My wife said we bring them back luck. Should we stay away for the last 3 games?!?!

Hell no, you shouldn't stay away! Bring your friends and co-workers and make more noise for the Ponies!

Getting worried about team health as the postseason approaches. Robbie Dershang went down and had to be helped off and didn't return. Barnes was limping badly out there. Then again, it was a rough game, as each team had a couple of guys really roughed up.

Great goals for the Mustangs, some outstanding goalkeeping (on both sides, honestly) and a great win!

Please cheer and make lots of noise! There were a few people out with vuvuzelas last night, but it was a pretty quiet game. Most away crowds make a lot of noise and the guys get pumped up when the crowd is yelling and cheering.

Heck ya, cheer. And give the stink eye back! My son still remembers the day when the "Go Ponies" beat unc in Chapel Hill. Myself, carolina stang, and sons were NEVER quiet.
