Women's Soccer - Local coaching news

TCU has named Eric Bell head coach. Bell has been an assistant at Florida State for the past six seasons, including being associate head coach for the past three seasons. FSU has been in the College Cup in three of the six seasons.

While naming a top national assistant as their new head coach isn't really the end of the world, Bell has named Ryan Higginbotham as an assistant. Higginbotham has been the director of coaching and top coach for the Dallas Texans' girls soccer program and has won the national girls club coach of the year award.

This change could be huge for TCU since a majority of our recruits have been from the Dallas Texans over the past few seasons. Two of our three local commitments for 2012 are from the Texans and all three of our current 2013 commitments are from the Texans.

TCU has been very mediocre in women's soccer (yes - we haven't exactly been tearing it up lately) but SMU really hasn't had to worry about them very much in recruiting. Now with them moving to the Big XII which is a great women's soccer conference (and will balance out our move to the Big East) - the hiring of the top women's coach from our main local club for recruiting should make things interesting moving forward.
