DALLAS (SMU) - With a first-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay, the SMU men's swimming and diving team edged No. 18 Texas A&M, 128-115, at Perkins Natatorium on Friday night. The meet came down to the final event, which the Mustangs won with a time of 2:57.04, the 11th fastest time in the country this season. With the win, the Mustangs improve to 3-1 in dual meets this year.

"When these two teams get together, it is always a great meet, and this year was no different," head coach Eddie Sinnott said. "Both teams battled hard and it was great to be a part of it. Tonight marked the final meet on the Hilltop for the seniors and they led us to victory. Devin played a key role in putting us in position to take it to the last relay and win the meet."

Freshman diver Devin Burnett won the three-meter dive with a score of 352.73. He placed second in the one-meter event with 336.52 points.

The Mustangs swept the 50-yard freestyle, as junior standout Mindaugas Sadauskas won the event in 20.33. Junior David Larsson came in second (20.64) and sophomore Ryan Koops was third (20.71).

Matas Andriekus continued his strong freshman campaign with a victory in the 200-yard backstroke, clocking in with a time of 1:46.40. He also swam the lead-off leg of the winning 400-yard medley relay squad, which finished with a time of 3:13.92.

Senior Mitchell Thomson picked up important points with his first-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 9:28.63. Also picking up a top-finish was Nicolai Hansen as he swam the 200-yard freestyle in 1:38.73.

The Mustangs had runner-up finishes from Blaz Korosec (200-yard butterfly, 1:48.82), Koops (100-yard freestyle, 45.30), and Matt Roney (200-yard frestyle, 1:39.51; 500-yard freestyle, 4:35.48).
