W-Soccer: SMU at Baylor

SMU is at Baylor Friday night for a huge non-conference game.

Baylor is 6-1-1, although they drew 0-0 at North Texas last Friday and were 0-0 at HT at UTSA Sunday before scoring four in the second half for a 4-0 victory.

The Bears do have a nice ranking though, so this is one of those games that can go a long way if we can pull off what seems like a reasonable chance at a win.

It looks like they might dodge the rain in Waco tonight.

It sounds like the field is in pretty poor shape from all of the rain they have had. The radio guys are talking about some standing water in the corners and how one of the goals is basically a mud pit.

It really makes you appreciate the world class facilities we have at Westcott!

Baylor hits a crossbar - but still 0-0 late in the 1st.

0-0 HT.

SMU had control for the first 20 minutes or so, but Baylor definitely came back into it a bit late in the first.

Shots: SMU 5, Baylor 10
SOG: SMU 2, Baylor 2
Corners: SMU 0, Baylor 2
Fouls: SMU 6, Baylor 9

Not a bad first half on the road in somewhat trying conditions for SMU.

Baylor frustratingly controlling the second half. At the 70' mark and still no shots in the half for SMU.

Heading to OT!

Shots: Baylor 19, SMU 7 !!!!!!
SOG: Baylor 4, SMU 4
Corners: Baylor 5, SMU 1
Fouls: Baylor 16, SMU 12
Yellow: Baylor 1, SMU 1 (Scovill)

Baylor totally had the run of play for the majority of the second half, but SMU came to life late and put a lot of pressure on Baylor and (obviously) got the equalizer.

Come on Mustangs, let's finish this one off!

OT1 complete.

Not much from SMU in OT yet. Baylor with four shots (two on goal) in the first OT and none for SMU.

Currently, SDSU is 2 in RPI and Baylor is 40, and we went to 2OT against both of them on their home fields and it's not going to help us in the RPI one bit...

But, that's the breaks. You just hope these are good learning experiences for the team and that it helps them down the road.

That was the worst officiating we have seen in a long time! The girls stayed strong against a very physical Baylor team and refs that should have been wearing green jerseys. CP did very limited substitutions. While the result is sad, I'm impressed with the resolve and stamina the ladies showed.

Thanks for the first hand report. It was obvious CP kept a short bench. I imagine he really wanted this one (like I did too) and he almost got it.

He is obviously fighting a lack of depth at the back with Hartweck out at TCU and Lewis out last night.

It is a shame to take a team like Baylor to 108 minutes and have nothing tangible to show for it. I'm sure a lot of us had trouble sleeping last night...

Thankfully we have a chance to hop right back on it against Oklahoma tomorrow night!
