DALLAS (SMU) - SMU men's soccer goalkeeper Jaime Ibarra has been named the Disney Soccer/NSCAA National Player of the Week (Sept. 24-30), after helping the Mustangs open Conference USA action with wins over South Carolina and No. 23 UAB.

Monday, Ibarra was tabbed the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week and was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week after saving 17 shots and helping the team to a 2-0 mark in league play. SMU defeated South Carolina, 2-1, Sept. 24 at Westcott Field, as Ibarra made seven saves on the night for the Mustangs. Saturday, SMU shut out No. 23 UAB on the road. Ibarra recorded 10 stops en route to his third shutout of the season. The junior has allowed only two goals in the past five games, stopping two penalty kicks in that span.

On the season, Ibarra has six games this year with six or more saves and has recorded 61 total stops, which ranks him fourth nationally. He averages 6.1 saves per game (9th NCAA) and holds a save percentage of 85.9% (14th NCAA).

The No. 25 Mustangs return to Westcott Field to host No. 20 Tulsa in a conference showdown tonight at 7 p.m. All tickets for the game are $1 and can be purchased online at SMUMustangs.com or by calling 214-SMU-GAME.
