That sucked and was sad when it happened. Payne was a pretty likable guy. You got me in the mood for The Masters too btw, can't even wait, best time of the sports year is now imo

Payne was one of the greatest SMU athletes ever. He left us way too early. And yes, the Masters is one of my favorite sporting events of the year.

Didn't even know he was from SMU. Awesome golfer, felt bad for his family and the kids he left behind.

Went to SMU with him. Got to meet him a few times. Always really nice. Great representative for SMU. Very sad end to a terrific person. I was always impressed with what he did for Collin Montgomery at the Ryder Cup.

Payne lived two doors down from me on Rosedale. We dated sorority roommates. Great guy, fun times.

His son, Aaron, played golf at SMU.

Had an opportunity to play with Payne when he was just a Frosh at SMU...I was a young alum living in Austin and he visited with a mutual friend. Had no idea he would turn out to be the player he became, but I sure remember how he got up and down to save some pars when I gave him no chance. Heck of a shot maker

This may have been posted elsewhere on PONYFANS or on SMUMUSTANGS.

Season 10, Episode 1 of AIR DISASTERS on the Smithsonian Channel titled "Deadly Silence" is about the Payne Stewart crash. The facts are by now well known but it is an interesting dramatization of the tragic event and the investigation.

In Atlanta GA it was shown at least once yesterday and will be seen several times today (10 January). I don't know about other locations.

That statue, or some version of it, should reside at our new Golf Complex / Golf Course.

Knowing it was about Payne Stewart and the impact he had on so many people it was difficult to watch but very informative
