Heise Earns Sixth Defensive Player Of The Week Award
Acker named to weekly honor roll

Nov. 16, 2015

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (SMU/The American) – Morgan Heise was named American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the sixth time in 12 weeks, and Avery Acker was named to the weekly honor roll after leading the SMU volleyball team to its first conference title, clinching at least a share of the American Athletic Conference regular-season crown. The Mustangs defeated Tulane and Houston in Moody Coliseum, stretching the win streak to 15 matches, improving to 15-1 in the conference and 25-3 overall.

Heise had 54 digs, tying Dana Powell for second all-time at SMU with 1,641 career digs. The junior had 32 digs against Houston, tied for 10th in a match at SMU, eclipsing 30 for the fourth time this season. She also had 22 against Tulane, tied for eighth in a three-set match at SMU, and averaged 7.71 digs per set in the two matches. Heise has 609 digs this season, needing just 18 to break her own school record of 626 digs in a season, set in 2014.

Acker had 94 assists in the two matches, becoming just the third player in SMU history to record 4,000 assists in a career. The senior has 4,076 assists, needing 116 to pass Kelli Becerra for second all-time at SMU. The SMU offense hit .278, averaging 15.86 kills per set, and Acker assists four Mustangs to double-digit kills against Houston. Acker has 1,237 assists this year, ranking 10th in a season at SMU.

The Mustangs play at Connecticut Friday and at second-place Temple Sunday on the final road trip of the regular season. SMU hosts USF Wednesday, Nov. 25, and UCF Friday, Nov. 27, in the regular-season finale.
