We may have a new aquatics center

I don't know about Dallas proper but there are a lot of community pool options in the area. But while we are thinking about it, we might as well tack on a lazy river to the complex and rent it out for sorority and fraternity parties. It worked well for the Gaylord.

In the recent past, there was rumor that SMU has been in contact with area high schools and in particular Highland Park regarding use of the facility. It would be great for area high school kids to be able to train in such a facility and it would also be great to start hosting the state high school championships. It is time we start recruiting US kids and attracting the type of world class athletes we have had in the past.

Ya I was looking for something close to uptown (within reason) I wanted to swim without the purchase of a full gym membership

Isn't there a swimming pool on campus?

Probably not after the new center opens. It will be the smusic 00 honorary putt putt course.

Is there any chance at all that a mini-Klyde Warren Park could be constructed over Central to combine SMU west & east?

Just enough for a pathway independent of cars would suffice, although a little green space would be ideal.

There was talk about a pedestrian bridge over 75 when the Bush was built. It's very doable, just south of SMU Blvd, but crossing there isn't very crazy now anyway. Just need to add some sidewalks on the east side.

Yep, I was thinking something on SMU Blvd. Given Barley House and other establishments are nearby, a pedestrian bridge away from cars + widening sidewalks make a lot of sense.

Haven't they recently widened the sidewalks along SMU Blvd east of 75? I thought they did that when they were beautifying the medians, etc.

BTW, there is a student pool in the Dedman Fitness center and no threat to an IPF funding, since the major donors (thank you) have a strong affiliation to SMU Swimming & Diving.

I was at the Groundbreaking which was heavily attended and DMN and Daily Campus covered it well. Former Swimmers (and donors) flew in from California, Illinois, Virginia and Georgia, plus many more from Texas. The enthusiasm was contagious. Turner was gracious, while admitting that good intentions don't fund major construction program.

Coach Mac was in attendance and learned that the new Robson and Lindley Aquatic Center will have the Barr-MacMillion Natatorium at its center. Great day to be a Mustang!
