Swimming And Diving Programs Earn CSCAA Scholar All-America Status

Jan. 28, 2016

NORFOLK, Va. (CSCAA/SMU) -- The SMU men's and women's swimming and diving programs were named to the fall 2015 Scholar All-America list for Division I teams that achieved a grade-point-average above 3.0. Officials from the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) announced the biannual award this week.

The women were one of 149 teams to earn the honor, posting a GPA of 3.43, while the men ranked 12th overall with a 3.34 mark. On both the men's and women's side, each program's senior class has earned Scholar All-America status since arriving on the Hilltop in the fall of 2012.

"We are very excited about the team's outstanding performance in the classroom," head women's coach Steve Collins said. "Our student-athletes are pursuing many different majors from all of the schools across our campus with great success."

Men's head coach Eddie Sinnott continued with expressing how the student-athletes embrace making academics a priority. "I'm proud of the success we're having in the classroom. It is a priority for us as a program, but it's always nice to see it become reality. Every year is a different year, with different guys, and they continue to do an excellent job."

The Mustang men are back in action on Friday when they travel to College Station, Texas, to take on Texas A&M, who is receiving votes in the latest edition of the CSCAA Top 25 Poll. The event is slated to begin at 7 p.m. CT and will stream LIVE on the SEC Network +. The women's team returns to the pool on Feb. 5 in Mansfield, Texas, when they host a dual meet with North Texas. The event will serve as Senior Day for six Mustangs.

Long tradition for swimming team academics at SMU dating back to the standards set by legendary coaches A.R. "Red" Barr and George McMillion. Nice job. I vividly recall Coach Barr reminding the team that we had the highest academic GPA of any group on campus and he would accept nothing less.
