No. 49 Mustangs Drop First Dual Match Of The Season To TCU

FORT WORTH, Texas (SMU) – The SMU women’s tennis team dropped their first match of the season, losing 7-0 to the TCU Horned Frogs at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.

TCU won the doubles point after winning matches on courts two and three. TCU’s No. 2 pair of Marie Norris and Alexis Pereira handed SMU’s Dasha Sharapova and Ana Perez-Lopez their first doubles loss of the season by a score of 6-2. The No. 3 pair of Olaya Garrido-Rivas and Mia Kind defeated SMU’s Macie Elliott and Mary Wright 6-1.

Hristina Dishkova and Vaszilisza Bulgakova won their doubles match 6-3 over Seda Arantekin and Caroline Wegner from the No. 1 doubles position. Arantekin and Wegner are the No. 16 ranked doubles pair in the ITA rankings.

TCU’s Pereira won the first match from the No. 6 position 6-3, 6-1 over Wright and Norris handed No. 58 Dishkova (No. 1) her first loss of the season, winning 6-2, 6-2. Aleksandra Zenovka of TCU defeated Perez-Lopez 6-4, 6-1 from the No. 5 position and Wegner topped Bulgakova 6-3, 6-4. Arantekin won her match against Yana Erkeeva (No. 3) 6-2, 6-1 and Dasha Sharapova (No. 4) lost her first singles mathchf of the season to Garrido-Rivas 7-5, 6-3.

The Mustangs will be back in action at the SMU Tennis Complex this Sunday as they host their first conference match of the season against the University of Connecticut at 1:00 p.m. CT.
