Klein Qualifies For NCAA Championship On 3-Meter
Sophomore Finishes Sixth At Zone Finals

March 7, 2016

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (SMU) – Sophomore Bryce Klein posted a two-round score of 769.85 to finish sixth on the 3-meter at the NCAA Zone D qualifying meet and punch his ticket to the 2016 NCAA Championship. Klein is one of seven divers from five institutions to advance. The NCAA Championship will be held March 24-26 in Atlanta.

Klein registered a 387.35 in the event final, which included a pair of 70+ scores on his first and last dives, to secure the Championship berth. In preliminary action, Klein posted a 382.50.

Klein is the SMU record holder on the 3-meter, and was named the Most Outstanding Diver of the 2016 American Athletic Conference Championship. With Klein’s automatic qualifying performance on the 3-meter, and a previous Zone score on the 1-meter, the sophomore can punch his second ticket with a top-12 performance on the 1 meter Tuesday.

Seniors Daniel Pitts and Parker Meinecke also competed in the preliminary round. Pitts finished 27th with a total score of 271.10, while Meinecke posted a 255.95 for 30th.

All three Mustang divers are back in action on Tuesday for 1-meter diving prelims. The top seven, after finals, will advance to the NCAA Championship in the event.

First dive for the men begins at 5:45 p.m. CT. Follow live on divemeets.com.
