Baxter, Buchanan Advance to U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Semifinal
SMU duo knocks off No. 1- and No. 25-seeds to advance

MAMARONECK, N.Y. (SMU) — The ninth-seeded duo of Ben Baxter and Andrew Buchanan advanced to the U.S. Amateur Four-Ball semifinals, Tuesday, after topping the No. 1- and No. 25-seeded pairs at the Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, N.Y.

Baxter and Buchanan, current SMU student-athletes, knocked off the No. 1-seeded group of Brandon Matthews and Patrick Ross by way of a 2-and-1 to advance to the semifinals. The SMU duo struck first and took a 2-up lead, claiming the seventh and 10th holes. Matthews and Ross cut their deficit to one with a win on 12, but the SMU duo closed the door on the match with a win on 17.

Earlier in the day, Baxter and Buchanan advanced to the quarterfinals via a 1-up victory over the 25th-seeded group, Scott Shingler and Justin Young. Trailing by a hole through 10, Baxter and Buchanan squared up with a win on the 11th hole, before claiming the 16th, the eventual winning hole.

Jason Enloe and Alex Buecking rallied back from a three-hole deficit to advance to the quarterfinals. Down three with seven holes remaining, the SMU duo won the 12th to cut the deficit to two. With two holes remaining, the former-teammates won the 17th and 18th holes to force a playoff. Enloe and Buecking sealed the match win with a birdie on the first playoff hole.

Later in the day, Enloe and Buecking fell 2-up to the 15th-seeded group of Otto Black and Colin Joseph. The two groups traded leads and were square after 15, but Black and Joseph won both the 16th and 18th holes to seal the win.

Play concludes Wednesday with the semifinals and finals. Baxter and Buchanan take on Patrick Christovich and Garrett Rank to open the day. The two groups tee off at 7 a.m. ET/6 a.m. CT. The finals will tee at 1 p.m. ET/12 CT.

The semifinal and championship matches can be seen on Fox Sports 1 from 3-5:30 p.m. ET/2-4:30 CT. For more information on the event, visit USGA.org.

SMU wins the championship 3 and 2. Played great the back 9. Morning round (semi-finals) they were 4 down after 5 and made a great come back. Lots of good things said about SMU. Enloe was there and played in it as well.

He is improving, hot, and due. I just wish he was more red and blue than orange.
