Klein, Burnett Wrap Up U.S. Olympic Diving Trials
Klein Advances To Three-Meter Synchro Finals

June 22, 2016

INDIANAPOLIS (SMU) – Current Mustang diver Bryce Klein and former standout Devin Burnett represented the Mustangs at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Indianapolis. Klein reached finals in the 3 meter synchro event with partner Bradley Christensen, while both Mustangs competed on 3 meter.

Klein and Christensen, both Southlake, Texas, natives, posted a three-round 1062.78 for seventh place. Scores through all three rounds were cumulative.

“What an exciting evening,” diving coach Jim Stillson said. “Bryce was brilliant tonight and I could not have asked more of him. Unfortunately, the three list total format was just too much to make up.”

Klein, along with Mustang alum Burnett, also competed in the 3 meter individual event on Monday.

“The Ponies had a rough start to the three-meter individual preliminaries, both having mediocre first dives,” Stillson added. “Bryce was able to claw his way round by round to qualify for the semifinals, and all in all it turned into a very good morning for the Mustangs.”

Burnett, a 12-time conference champion and All-American at SMU, finished in 28th place, while Klein was 10th, advancing to the evening’s semifinal. Klein concluded the evening 17th in the semis.

Both student-athletes hold SMU standards and have been awarded conference Diver of the Year honors.

U.S. Trails resume with swimming action June 26-July 3 in Omaha, Neb. Former SMU swimmer Tyler Rauth will compete in the 100-meter butterfly.
