Six Men's Tennis Players Earn Academic Honors

DALLAS (SMU) — Six SMU men's tennis student-athletes were named Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athlete, as announced on Thursday.

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria, be a varsity letter winner, have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters.

The six Mustangs selected were graduate Nate Lammons (mechanical engineering, 3.70 GPA), seniors Hunter Johnson (sport management, 3.54), Yates Johnson (sport management, 3.54), Arkadijs Slobodkins (mathematics, 3.55), Julio Olaya (Economics & Public Policy, 3.54) and sophomore Sam Hoogland (finance, 3.52). Lammons earned his bachelor's and master's in mechanical engineering in May.

It is the second consecutive award and third overall for Lammons, third award for Yates in which he earned it in 2013-14 while at Louisiana-Lafayette, second for Hunter with the first one coming in 2013 at Louisiana-Lafayette and first honors for Hoogland, Olaya and Slobodkins.
