Heise, Giordano Named To Preseason All-Conference Team

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (SMU/AAC) – Morgan Heise and Janelle Giordano were unanimous selections to the American Athletic Conference Preseason All-Conference Team as chosen by the league's coaches, conference officials announced Monday.

Heise, back-to-back conference Libero of the Year, and Giordano, a three-time all-conference honoree, led the Mustangs to the 2015 conference championship with a program record 27 wins and a 17-3 mark in league matches. Heise set a school and conference record with 721 digs, while Giordano set a school and conference record with 188 total blocks.

Despite winning the conference championship last season, the Mustangs were picked to finish third in the preseason coaches' poll, earning two of 11 first-place votes. Cincinnati was voted the favorite to win the league with seven first-place votes, while Temple was picked second and garnered two first-place votes.

SMU starts the season at home Aug. 26 with the DoubleTree Classic. The Mustangs host Montana in Moody Coliseum at 12:30 p.m., and also face UTSA Friday at 7 p.m. A match against Arkansas-Little Rock concludes the first tournament of the season Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
