Heise, Stehling Voted Team Co-Captains

DALLAS (SMU) – Seniors Morgan Heise and Kristen Stehling were selected as 2016 team captains by their teammates, head coach Lisa Seifert announced.

"These two seniors have the traits necessary to guide our team through the highs and lows that can happen during a season," Seifert explained. "We have one of the largest freshmen classes we've ever had, and our captains have been very influential, providing guidance during summer and fall camp. I am confident this leadership will continue, and aid in our success during the season."

Heise was one of three captains a year ago, serving with seniors Avery Acker and Abbey Bybel, and helped guide the Mustangs to a conference championship and a program-record 27 wins. She set a school and conference record with 721 digs, earning her second straight conference Libero of the Year award.

Stehling, a two-year starter who has played 88 matches over three seasons, recorded 100 blocks as a junior and was second on the team, hitting .302 last season. With 229 career blocks, Stehling is approaching the top-10 all-time at SMU.

The Mustangs hold their annual Red-Blue Scrimmage in Moody Coliseum Tuesday at 6 p.m. SMU opens the season at home Friday and Saturday with the DoubleTree Classic. The first match is Friday at 12:30 p.m. against Montana. UTSA and Little Rock are also competing in the tournament.
